Documentary Screening Charting MACA’s 40 Year History

Medway African and Caribbean Association continues to commemorate its 40th anniversary with a very special screening of a documentary that charts its 40-year history.

The documentary “ A Journey to 40 Years, was commissioned by MACA using funds from the National Lottery Community Fund and Arts Council England, the documentary was filmed and produced by local producer Andrei Allen of You Now Have Digital, a Medway-based producer.

The film tells the story of how MACA was founded 40 years ago in a front room in Gillingham and shows its growth and contribution to communities across Kent and Medway. It features stories from some of the founders, project staff, volunteers, young people and trustees.

Chairperson Dr Carol Stewart says of the documentary “It’s important that we regularly document stories so that future generations can learn about the contribution of organisations like MACA and the contributions of the people that make up MACA. Many of the older generations did not have the benefit of the technology that exists today, to share their narrative, we owe it to them and to future generations to keep their legacy alive. “

The documentary is being launched at a special screening on Friday 30th August, at the Chatham Historic Dockyard Church. Entrance is free, but ticketed only. It will be followed by a Q and A chaired by Paul Barnard Chief Operating Officer, and will include the film-maker, MACA founders, young people and MACA chair
