Thank you for expressing interest in becoming a Trustee for the Medway African and Caribbean Association (MACA). As we continue to grow and make a positive impact in our community, we are seeking dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees.
Who We Are
- Founded over 30 years ago in Gillingham, MACA represents the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people in Medway.
- Our mission is to promote the culture, heritage, and aspirations of African and Caribbean people, fostering better understanding among the communities of Kent and Medway.
- MACA is a registered charity with an engaged board of trustees, running various activities and collaborating with partners across the region.
What We Do
- Weekly drop-ins in Gillingham and Gravesend.
- Heritage Lottery funded project called Black History Live.
- Police liaison, Young Black Achievers awards, and various social and cultural events.
Trustee Opportunities
We are looking for individuals who can spare some time and bring specific skills to contribute to our growth. As a Trustee, you can be part of exciting projects, including the relaunch of our Saturday school and young people’s group.
Requirements
- Age 18 and over.
- We welcome individuals with diverse skills and experiences.
Exclusions
You cannot be a trustee if:
- You have an unspent conviction for an offence involving dishonesty or deception.
- You are currently declared bankrupt or have an individual voluntary agreement (IVA) with creditors.
- You are disqualified from being a company director.
- You have been removed as a trustee due to misconduct or mismanagement.
Trustee Responsibilities
As a trustee, you play a crucial role in ensuring MACA fulfils its legal requirements under charity law. Responsibilities include acting in the best interests of the charity, making decisions in line with good practice, and using the charity’s resources for its intended purposes.
