New logo for MACA
Medway African and Caribbean Association (MACA) is proud to be launching its brand new logo.
MACA commissioned local Medway artists Jay and Neel Patel, who worked with MACA to come up with a logo that best represented our purpose and vision. The Sankofa bird was chosen and has been adapted by the designers in consultation with MACA.
The The term Sankofa is an Akan word from Ghana that means ‘go back and fetch it’. Source
It is a symbol of a bird with its head turned backward, carrying an egg in its mouth, representing the idea of looking back at our past to learn from it and move forward.
This term is very much representative of the ethos of our work and vision. We encourage people to learn and reflect on their past, and appreciate all the many things that history has taught us, to help shape who we are now and where we want to be.
Our strapline is ‘Championing race, culture and diversity for all’. Our vision is for all people across Kent and Medway to live in a place where we are treated as equals, appreciative and respectful of people of different racial backgrounds and cultures, and ensuring that diversity is integral into everything we do.
Carol Stewart, Chairperson of MACA states ‘We are very proud to be rebranding MACA, especially in our 40th anniversary year. We hope that this new brand better reflects who we are and what we are about. Over the coming weeks, we will be updating our website and all our social media, as we prepare to launch our 40th anniversary celebrations!
We shall be sending updates about our 40th anniversary programme in
the next weeks, so keep you eyes on this website
